BELAPUR - Makar Sankranti a major harvest festival celebrated in India is here. It is known and celebrated by different customs in different parts of the country. The festival in southern parts of India is celebrated as Pongal whereas in Punjab as Maghi. Since Makar Sankranti is celebrated for innumerable reasons and in innumerable ways CIDCO Urban Haat also gives you a reason to celebrate this auspicious festival from 3rd to 19th January, 2014 at CIDCO Urban Haat near CBD Belapur Railway Station.
In this grand Sankrant Mela, artisans from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Rajasthan, U.P, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and Bihar are participating with exclusive handloom and Handicraft products. In handicrafts terracotta, leather products, jute products, bamboo products, wall hangings, artificial jewellery, stone arts, paintings, bangles, carpets, statues will be exhibited by master craftsmen from various states of Maharashtra.
Apart from handloom and handicraft articles, Urban Haat this time has come up with an exclusive food court for the food lovers. There will be a special display of Konkan food products from Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Raigarh and Ratnagiri by the Self Help Groups, wherein one can enjoy delicious Kolhapuri, Malvani and Sea food items all under one roof.
Makar Sankrant Mela will start with a huge ovation this New Year at Urban Haat. CIDCO has proposed many events like Gandhi Shilp Bazaar, National Handloom Expo, Vasant Mela, Chaitra Mela and Summer Festival at the Haat till June 2014. The calendar of event for the same is ready.
Many cultural programmes are held in the amphitheatre in the weekends. Some of the programmes scheduled are fashion designing shows, Film Festivals, Dance, Drama, Orchestra and many other cultural activities by schools and colleges of Navi Mumbai.
