Anand Mahindra accepts Sustainable Development Leadership Award

February 06, 2014, New Delhi: Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the USD 16.7 billion Mahindra Group, today received the Sustainable Development Leadership Award from The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). Mr. Mahindra accepted the award from External Affairs Minister, Mr. Salman Khurshid on behalf of the Mahindra Group, at a special ceremony held in the National Capital.
Mr. Mahindra was presented with the award in recognition of the dynamic and visionary leadership he has shown in spearheading the Mahindra Group on the path of sustainability and environmental awareness. “With its dynamic and visionary approach, TERI has greatly contributed to the global dialogue on finding solutions to global problems in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable development and I am honoured to accept this award from them on behalf of the Mahindra Group,” said Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group. Instituted by TERI in 2005, the Sustainable Development Leadership Award felicitates global leaders for their contributions to the field of sustainable development. The Award is presented at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit as TERI’s tribute to eminent individuals engaged in encouraging global initiatives that can lead the world towards a sustainable future. Past recipients of the award include Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, Prime Minister of Japan, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, Mr Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California, Mr. Shoichiro Toyoda, Honorary Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, amongst others. The annual Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) is a major event focusing on sustainable development, the pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and assessment of worldwide progress in these critical areas. DSDS attracts the most prominent thinkers and practitioners in a range of fields that impinge on development. Since development worldwide is moving towards an architecture based on partnerships, the leaders who participate in DSDS come from government, business and industry, multilateral and bilateral organizations, research and academia and civil society. In keeping with its focus on harnessing the technological advancements in green technology and deploy the same towards betterment of the overall automotive eco-system, Mahindra has its green product portfolio on display at the Auto Expo currently underway in Greater Noida. Mr. Mahindra also unveiled the Mahindra Formula-E Car, which will participate in the FIA sponsored Formula-E Championship starting in September 2014. The Mahindra Group, besides being the only Indian team to participate in the Formula-E, hopes to integrate its advanced operations and expertise in electronics, IT, automotive technologies and manufacturing into the global electric vehicle growth story. The Formula-E is a new FIA Championship featuring Formula Cars powered solely by electricity. पवनचक्क्यांच्या अवजड सामुग्रीच्या वाहतुकीमुळे नुकसानग्रस्त रस्त्यांची जबाबदारी "महाऊर्जा" ची: भुजबळ

  मुंबई, ता. २४ - पवनचक्क्या उभारण्यासाठी लागणार्‍या अवजड यंत्रसामुग्रीच्या वाहतुकीमुळे रस्त्यांचे मोठ्या प्रमाणात नुकसान होते. या रस्त्यांच्या देखभाल-दुरुस्तीची जबाबदारी अपारंपारिक ऊर्जा विभागाने स्वीकार ली पाहिजे, असे सार्वजनिक बांधकाममंत्री छगन भुजबळ यांनी त्यांच्या दालनात झालेल्या बैठकीत स्पष्ट केले आहे. सार्वजनिक बांधकाम विभागाकडून तयार करण्यात आलेले रस्ते किमान ५ वर्षे सुस्थितीत रहावे अशी अपेक्षा असते. तथापि, पवनऊर्जा प्रकल्पांसाठी लागणार्‍या अवजड यंत्रसामुग्रीच्या वाहतुकीमुळे ते सुस्थितीत राहू शकत नाहीत व लवकर खराब होतात. याप्रकारे सांगली, धुळे, नंदूरबार, सातारा, अहमदनगर, नाशिक जिल्ह्यातील राज्यमार्ग, प्रमुख जिल्हामार्ग, इतर जिल्हामार्ग तसेच ग्रामीण मार्ग असे सगळे मिळून सुमारे ६३५.५८ किलोमीटर लांबीचे रस्ते खराब झाले आहेत. यांच्या दुरुस्तीची जबाबदारी अपारंपारिक ऊर्जा विभागाने घेतलीच पाहिजे. या रस्त्यांची देखभाल-दुरुस्ती सार्वजनिक बांधकाम विभाग घेईलही, मात्र त्याच्या खर्चाची तरतूद संबंधित विभागाने करावी असेही श्री. भुजबळ यांनी स्पष्ट केले.
